Capella Hotels and Resorts will open its first European property in Florence, Italy, in 2027, marking the luxury brand's expansion into the European market, following its success in the Asia-Pacific region. Capella Florence will occupy a historic complex in the cultural heart of Florence, located near Piazza della Liberta and the Duomo.

The property represents a restoration of the Via San Gallo historic complex, which dates back to the 12th century. The site has served multiple purposes throughout its 800-year history, including housing the convents of Sant'Agata, San Clemente and Santa Lucia di Camporeggi; hosting artists such as Arcangela Paladini; and functioning as a military hospital.

Italian architectural firms RPA and De Vita & Schulze are leading the restoration project, with French design house Liaigre handling interior design. The development will combine restored heritage buildings with contemporary architectural elements.

"Capella Florence represents a natural evolution of our vision, bringing the Capella experience to a city where culture, history and artistry are deeply ingrained in everyday life," said Cristiano Rinaldi, president of Capella Hotel Group. "In a destination as rich and layered as Florence, we are honored to collaborate with a world-renowned architect and interior designer who share our dedication to crafting spaces that respect local history while creating meaningful connections for today's luxury traveler. It is a privilege to be entrusted with the renewal of this historic part of Florence's cultural and communal heritage."

The 89-key property will include 56 guestrooms and 33 suites, along with 10 classical and modern residences accessible through a dedicated entrance. Dining options will comprise two restaurants featuring local Tuscan cuisine and Japanese sushi omakase, respectively, complemented by a rooftop bar and a subterranean speakeasy wine vault. The property will also feature Capella's signature Living Room.

A separate Clubhouse will feature a Capella Spa with a hydro pool, a fitness center and a cafe. The development will include an indoor amphitheater designed to honor the site's historical tradition of creativity and cultural exchange.
