Last November welcomed the opening of The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort, St. Regis’ first property in Latin America.
Punta Mita is a 1,500-acre gated resort and residential community on a private, pear-shaped peninsula located on Riviera Nayarit, 26 miles north of Puerto Vallarta International Airport. Since the resort is on a peninsula, it is considered a very safe and secure Mexico destination.
“Punta Mita is the most exclusive gated community in Mexico,” said Melanie Schneider, director of sales and marketing for The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort. “St. Regis has a reputation for building in the best addresses available, and Punta Mita is no exception.”
The resort opened last year and is already generating repeat business.
“One couple has returned four times already, while another family has returned three times,” she said.
The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort has 89 rooms and 31 suites of which 85 percent of have sea views. Its intimate size and bespoke service are big selling points for the property.
“Our butler service is actually more of a personal assistant rather than a butler,” said Schneider, who added that each butler is dedicated to a small amount of rooms.
In addition to bespoke service, the resort boasts a 10,000-square-foot spa, the Remede Spa. The spa features 10 treatment rooms, including two rooms for couples, and a Deluxe Spa Suite. And keeping with the theme of bespoke service, the Remede Spa specializes in customized treatments.
The resort is also family friendly featuring the La Tortuga Children’s Club for children ages five through 12. In addition, one of its three pools is designated for families. Teens will be pleased to hear that surf instruction is available at the resort, which is a 15-minute drive (courtesy of the resort’s limousine service) to the laidback surfing town of Sayulita.
The birders and nature-lovers in the group can enjoy expeditions to offshore islands. But perhaps golfers have it best since Punta Mita has two Jack Nicklaus-designed golf courses, the 19-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Pacifico Course and the 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Bahia Course.
“More than half of our guests play golf,” said Schneider. “This breaks down to 75 percent male golfers and 25 percent female.”
Schneider noted that while Puerto Vallarta and Punta Mita are not well known as golf destinations when compared to a destination such as Los Cabos, that is on track to change. This month, the region will raise its golf profile by hosting the Riviera Nayarit Classic from Sept. 28 to Oct. 4, sponsored by the Canadian Professional Golf Tour group.
