Coming Home to Cabo

The first thing I was asked as I walked up to the entrance of the Casa del Mar Beach, Golf & Spa Resort was if I wanted to trade places. A couple waiting for their airport transfer wanted to know if I’d give up my three-night stay so that they could get a couple more days in at the beach. They were kidding, of course, but they were right.

After three days of relaxation and pampering, I was wishing I could trade my flight home for just a few more days by the sea.

The Casa del Mar is located in Los Cabos on a beautiful strip of white-sand beach in between the party town of Cabo San Lucas and the colonial village of San Jose Del Cabo. The resort shares a driveway with celebrity hot-spot Las Ventanas, and clients will feel just as stylish.

After receiving a cold margarita and a warm welcome from my hosts, I was ushered to my spacious oceanview room.

Each of the resort’s 56 guestrooms offers private terrace or balconies, Jacuzzi, sofa, desk and twice-daily maid service with evening turndown. There are 25 deluxe oceanview rooms and 31 one-bedroom suites on the property. Suites come with a separate living room and bedroom, walk-in closet, dining area and wet bar.

There are six swimming pools at the resort, including an infinity pool, a children’s pool and two swim-up bars. My favorite relaxation spot was the adults-only pool on the beach, surrounded by sand and steps away from the ocean. Clients can float in the kidney-shaped pool, listening to the sound of the pounding surf. Signs posted along the shore indicate “no swimming” in the ocean, so this pool is as good as it gets.

Guests can also dine down by the beach at the Beach Club, serving drinks and snacks. There is nothing like seafood ceviche and a margarita while floating inches from the sand.

For heartier fare, the Casa del Mar has two restaurants. Clients can enjoy a romantic dinner on the beach at the Mezquite Grill located in the sand and surrounded by tiki torches. For fine dining, El Tapanco serves up Mexican gourmet cuisine, as well as a continental buffet for breakfast and a Sunday champagne brunch.

A highlight of the resort is definitely the Suenos del Mar Spa. The recently renovated retreat is decorated in a contemporary Mexican style, bamboo paneling and earthy accents. Suenos del Mar offers a variety of treatments as well as a sauna, steam room and a Jacuzzi.

Other activities offered at the resort include golf, tennis and a well-equipped fitness center. Guests receive access to the Cabo Real Golf Course designed by Robert Trent Jones II, as well as 25 percent off green fees during the day and 10 percent in the evening. The concierge will also arrange a variety of off-site activities, including watersports, fishing trips, sunset cruises, diving, snorkeling and more.

Here, hospitality is a priority, and the spectacular service and pampering will make clients feel right at home.
