Easy Entry into Los Cabos

As trouble swirls along the borders of Mexico, Los Cabos has always been in the enviable position of promoting itself as a safe destination at the tip of a peninsula, far from disturbances to the north. In fact, Baja California Sur, the Mexican state containing Los Cabos, was recently highlighted in a “San Francisco Chronicle” article entitled “Five Safest Places in Mexico for Travelers,” which listed Baja California Sur as the fifth safest of all of Mexico’s 31 states. The article referenced an official database commissioned by Mexico’s President Felipe Calderon, tallying the number of drug-related homicides throughout Mexico each year, from 2006 to the present.

A new development has now made the destination even more appealing for international visitors. The recent implementation of Global Entry kiosks for international travelers arriving at the San Jose del Cabo International Airport (SJD) marks the first airport in Mexico to be selected for this program.

“Los Cabos is proud to pioneer the Global Entry program in Mexico for international travelers,” said Gonzalo Franyutti, President of the Los Cabos Convention & Visitors Bureau (LCCVB). “The establishment of Global Entry kiosks at SJD confirms that Los Cabos is one of the most desirable tourism destinations in the world.”

Global Entry kiosks will be stationed within the airport to allow pre-approved, low-risk travelers to avoid standing in line and proceed directly to the kiosk for expedited clearance upon arrival. Although this program is intended for frequent travelers, there is no minimum number of trips necessary to qualify, making Global Entry a convenient addition for business and leisure travelers arriving at the San Jose del Cabo International Airport.

An additional development from the Los Cabos Convention & Visitors Bureau is catching attention in the marketplace. The LCCVB recently announced the launch of a new, multi-million dollar advertising and marketing campaign called Time2Cabo. The new Time2Cabo tagline will be fully integrated into the Los Cabos CVB advertising, marketing and public relations efforts this year, including the official destination website Time2Cabo.com.
