Simply put, I’m a fan of spas and wine. So when I heard about the Somma WineSpa at the Fiesta Americana Grand Los Cabos, I thought it was a natural fit. Exclusive to Mexico, the Somma WineSpa is one of a handful of wine-themed spas, which incorporate the antioxidants and other natural benefits of wine into many of their signature treatments — as well as serving up a glass or two to guests.

According to the property’s general manager, Alberto Gurrola Aquirrezabal, the spa concept is blended throughout the hotel. With that in mind, the relaxation process begins at check-in, when guests step into the aromatherapy-integrated hotel lobby. Also geared toward overall wellness, menus at the resort’s three restaurants feature locally grown, organic produce and freshly caught seafood.
The emphasis on the spa experience is part of Fiesta Americana Grand’s rebranding, which will be completed later in the year when the resort adds "Golf and Spa" to the end of its name.
On a recent trip, I had the chance to indulge in one of the spa’s newest creations, The Barefoot Dining Experience, a treatment that blends reflexology on the beach with a lavish multicourse dinner beneath the stars. Upon arrival, my therapist asked me to remove my flip-flops and place them in a terry-cloth-lined basket for safekeeping and led me down to the beach. An oversized rattan chair — positioned to face the Sea of Cortez and a blazing bonfire — awaited me. Beside my chair was a table for wine tasting and a shallow basket filled with plump red grapes.
My therapist guided me to place my feet onto the basket of grapes and instructed me to begin stomping on them like an old-fashioned vintner. I giggled — the sensation of the fruit squishing between my toes could only bring to mind that classic episode of "I Love Lucy," where Lucy turns purple after stomping grapes in Italy. The mood on the beach was light and cheery. (You can only take yourself so seriously when ankle-deep in a basket of fruit.) Once my grapes were thoroughly crushed, I sat down, propped my feet up and gazed at the stars. I listened to the sound of crashing waves as the therapist began massaging my feet and legs with handfuls of the cool, crushed grapes. Soon after, she removed the grape skins and seeds with a warm towel, and a sommelier-led wine tasting began.
We sampled a local chardonnay paired with shrimp tartar, a cabernet-zinfandel blend accompanied by beef carpaccio drizzled with white truffle oil and a blanc de blancs with smoked salmon. The Barefoot Dining Experience culminated with an elegant meal of fresh seafood matched with wine from our previous tasting, and the resort provided a helpful cheat sheet listing the characteristics of each wine sampled throughout the event.
The Somma WineSpa’s more traditional treatments take place in the indoor spa located next to the lobby. Guests can soak in a chromotherapy bath infused with merlot or try the couples’ massage, which incorporates a private Jacuzzi soak and a wine tasting with hors d’oeuvres.

Fiesta Americana Grand Los Cabos is located within the prestigious gated community of Cabo Del Sol. And the resort itself is nestled between two courses, an 18-hole ocean course and an 18-hole desert course. Both world-renowned Cabo Del Sol golf courses — which Fiesta Americana Grand guests have access to — have been nicknamed the Pebble Beach of Latin America and were designed by Jack Nicklaus. On my recent visit, I enjoyed a hanging out at the clubhouse, where clients can shop and grab a bite to eat before practicing their swing at the onsite driving range.
For high-end clients who enjoy a quiet setting and absolute privacy, Fiesta Americana Grand offers the Grand Club suites, which come with VIP privileges. Guest staying in these 38 rooms will enjoy access to the Club Lounge, personal concierge service and private swimming pool with an ocean-view sundeck.
The resort is located on The Corridor, an 18-mile stretch of beach connecting San Jose del Cabo to Cabo San Lucas. Both towns are about a 15-minute taxi ride away.
