Last month, Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, city council members Janice Hahn and Bill Rosendhal, along with Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) commissioners, took part in an official groundbreaking ceremony for the long-awaited renovation of the Tom Bradley International Terminal at LAX.
The Bradley West Project is estimated to cost a total of $1.55 billion and will both modernize and upgrade the existing terminal to world-class standards by constructing a new 1.25-million-square-foot building with a total of 15 new boarding gates that can accommodate newer and larger aircraft, including the Airbus A380 and the Boeing B787 Dreamliner.
The project is just one element of a comprehensive LAX Master Plan aimed at modernizing the airport, including the current $723.5 million renovation of the 30-year-old Bradley Terminal which is set for completion this spring.
