New Chairman Takes Helm at Hong Kong Tourism
Board
The Hong Kong Tourism Board announced the appointment of James Tien
Pei-chun as its new chairman to replace Selina Chow.
A member of the Legislative Council since 1988, Tien is also
chairman of the Liberal Party and a member of the National
Committee of the Chinese People’s Consultative Conference, Hong
Kong.
As chairman of the Legislative Council Economic Services Panel
for the past nine years, Tien brings experience in Hong Kong’s
economic sectors, including tourism. He was also chairman of the
Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce from 1996 to 1998, and
remains a general committee member of the chamber, as well as the
Federation of Hong Kong Industries.
China Travel Service Welcomes Shum
Lily Shum has been appointed as vice president of marketing and
business development for China Travel Service (U.S.A.) as of May 1.
Shum was previously regional director of the Hong Kong Tourism
Board and was instrumental in bringing over 2,000 agents to Hong
Kong for the ASTA Conference and over 1,000 SITE members to the
SITE Conference in Hong Kong. Shum also led the post-SARS rebound
of traffic to Hong Kong with a dynamic Partnership Program
involving five airlines and 29 wholesalers.
New Pan Pacific Seattle General Manager
John Stoddard has assumed the position of general manager for the
recently opened Pan Pacific Seattle, according to Steve Halliday,
vice chairman of Pan Pacific Hotels and Resorts, North America.
Stoddard was general manager for the Wilshire Grand Hotel &
Centre in Los Angeles since 1998, where he was responsible for all
operations of the 900-room convention hotel and 165,000 square feet
of office space.
Stoddard also served as general manager for Park Lane Hotels
International’s Parc Fifty Five Hotel in San Francisco from
1992-1998, and has held several management positions at a variety
of properties, including the Hyatt Regency San Francisco and the
San Francisco Marriott, both in San Francisco; the San Francisco
Airport Marriott in Burlingame, Calif.; the Lincolnshire Resort
Marriott in Lincolnshire, Ill.; Harrah’s Hotel and Casino in
Stateline, Nev.; the Hyatt Lake Tahoe Hotel & Casino in Incline
Village, Nev.; and the Seattle Hyatt House in Seattle.
