World of Color, Disney’s newest water and light show, celebrated its world premiere on June 10 at Paradise Bay in Disney California Adventure theme park before an audience of media and celebrity guests. The 26-minute show features 1,200 programmed fountains that shoot water up to 200 feet into the air, creating a screen that displays colorized lighting and video clips from Disney and Disney-Pixar films, all set to music.

“The World of Color spectacular immerses guests in our stories through all of their senses,” said Randy Garfield, president of the Walt Disney Travel Company and executive vice president, worldwide sales and travel operations, for Disney Destinations.

The show also features neon lasers and fire and incorporates cast members from Disney classics, including characters from Disney-Pixar films, such as “Finding Nemo” and “Up.”

The completion of World of Color marks the creation of a broad new genre of entertainment for Disney. Executives expect that the mostly automated show, which operates
without any performers, will be a flexible platform for reinvention during special events and holidays.

“We’re absolutely working on a new version of the show for next summer,” said Chuck Davis, technical producer of World of Color for Disney Entertainment.

World of Color has been five years in the making, and is part of Disney’s $1.4 billion expansion project at Disney California Adventure, a venture aimed at transforming the Disneyland Resort into a multi-day vacation destination.

“We want Disney California Adventure park to have its own unique personality so that guests can experience Disney content in a contemporary way,” said Mary Niven, vice president of Disney California Adventure park and guest services at the Disneyland Resort.
