A Finnish shipyard has entered a tentative agreement to build a
42,500-ton luxury ship to be branded, managed and operated by Four
Seasons Hotels and Resorts. Kvaerner Masa-Yards announced the
$335-million conditional contract, although there was minimal
information from Four Seasons at press time.
Kvaerner termed the vessel a “residential ship” with about 100
residences of 1,345 to 3,450 square feet, which sounds like a
competitor to the World of ResidenSea.
“The development in recent years of branded luxury residential
resort communities has shown there is great potential demand for
the unique lifestyle we will offer,” said Kristian Stensby,
chairman of Ocean Development Group, whose subsidiary, FS Ocean
Club Ltd., is designing and constructing the ship.
Construction is expected to start in July 2005, when sales
targets for the residences have been reached. Delivery would then
be expected 24 months later.
An option for a second vessel would expire at the end of
2005.
