Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando will soon add more shopping, dining and entertainment options to its Downtown Disney area — a project that is expected to create an estimated 1,200 new jobs over the next
three years.
Many changes will be seen at the Pleasure Island section of Downtown Disney, which will be reimagined as Hyperion Wharf, a dining and retail district that resembles an early 20th century port city and amusement pier. The wharf district will also feature a lakeside park and enhanced pedestrian walkways. While Pleasure Island nightclubs will shut down, several eateries will be added, increasing the number of restaurants in Downtown Disney by more than 25 percent.
