Norwegian Surprises Guest with 100th Birthday Celebration

Jan 18, 2012
Norwegian Sky rang in the New Year by celebrating the 100th birthday of Mrs. Zara Holtz, a former travel agent. On Jan. 1, Mrs. Holtz certainly could not have foreseen the elaborate celebration Norwegian Sky had prepared for her. The ship’s more than 2,000 guests were invited to this special sail away party, complete with an enormous ice sculpture of a giant “100” and a birthday cake.

The Fort Lauderdale resident, sailing with her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren, was completely surprised and honored by the celebration. After her fellow guests, officers and crew sang “Happy Birthday” in her honor, Mrs. Holtz stated that she never expected to live up to 100 and wished everyone could go sailing on their birthdays as well.

Mrs. Holtz and her family were also invited by the captain, officers and crew to a special birthday dinner in Cagney’s Steakhouse. During the dinner, Mrs. Holtz thanked Norwegian Sky’s hotel director Jean-Michel Dhelin and said that, although she has traveled a lot, Norwegian Sky and her crew provided the very best cruise experience she has ever had.
