Low-cost airline carrier Spirit Airlines recently announced that it will charge up to $45 each way for each carry-on bag that is placed in the overhead bin compartment. The new fee, which begins on Aug. 1, is $45 at the gate and $30 if paid in advance. The airline also announced that it has discounted some of its lowest fares by $40 on average, to compensate for the new fee.
Spirit Airlines is based in Miramar, Fla., and operates the majority of its routes through Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Latin America.
