Thompson Hotels — a hospitality company whose stylish properties include Thompson LES in New York’s Lower East Side, the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and the Thompson Beverly Hills in Los Angeles — has announced its Trans-Atlantic expansion with its first European hotel, Belgraves, a Thompson Hotel. The new London property is a joint venture with the family-owned investment and development group, The Harilela Group (its portfolio includes Sheraton, Westin and Holiday Inn properties, among others).
“Our first hotel, 60 Thompson in New York, was ideologically based on the intimacy of British hotels,” said Jason Pomeranc, co-owner of Thompson Hotels. “London is a natural transition for the Thompson brand, and the opening of Belgraves brings us full circle.”
Set to open in the summer of 2011, the new Belgraves hotel will be located in London’s affluent Belgravia neighborhood, which is a short walk from the renowned restaurants and shops of Sloane Square. The 85-room hotel will feature bold interior architecture and design by acclaimed British designer, Tara Bernerd, and the architectural design of London-based EPR Architects.
“Belgraves is iconic for its location alone,” said Bernerd. “Combining this with the opportunity of working with the forward-thinking and design-savvy Thompson Hotels has magnified the appeal of the project and allows us all as a team to create a very seductive hotel. We intend on creating a rich, eclectic and tactile design that combines traditional elegance with a modern architectural language.”
Thompson Hotels’ international developments will begin with the opening of Thompson Toronto later this year. Thompson Hotels is a partnership among Larry, Michael and Jason Pomeranc and Stephen Brandman.
