Tourism Malaysia Impresses at Travel Show

Feb 16, 2012

At the recent Los Angeles Travel & Adventure Show, Tourism Malaysia won the Best of Show Cultural Interaction award. The show, which was held at the Long Beach Convention Center from Jan. 14-15, is the one of the largest travel events in the U.S., with more than 25,800 guests in attendance this year.

“For the third year now, we have seen Tourism Malaysia executives continue to impress attendees with their rich culture and warm hospitality,” said John Golicz, CEO of Unicomm, the show’s organizer. “From pulled tea to authentic dance and music, Malaysia immersed the Travel & Adventure show attendees in the culture of their land.”

Tourism Malaysia’s exhibit at the show featured a variety of cultural displays and activities, including traditional past time games, cultural performances, teh tarik (pulled tea), demonstrations and samplings. Performances were put on both at their booth and on the main performance stage, providing a variety of entertainment and cultural education for participants. Show attendees were even encouraged to take part in each of Tourism Malaysia’s activities, allowing them to experience the Malaysian culture for themselves.

“There is only one way to really get to know a culture and that is through experiencing it,” said Mazlan Araju, vice president Western USA/Latin America for Tourism Malaysia. “We want to go over and beyond brochures and pamphlets, which is why we feel our cultural activities are so important. Winning this award out of 400 exhibit booths is recognition that our efforts are making a positive difference with the audience.”
