By Lisa Jennings railways Transport- ation System has relaunched
its tour bureau and is now offering motor coach tour vacations
across the country.
Made up of a network of motor coach travel companies nationwide,
Trailways was founded in 1936 and was the first motor coach
organization to offer vacation packages by bus, said Gale
Ellsworth, president and CEO.
The tours were popular until the 1970s, when “things changed
drastically for travel in America,” Gale said. More people were
traveling by air and motor coach tours fell out of favor, so
Trailways put the tour operation on hold.
Now that trends show more Americans looking for travel
opportunities closer to home, Trailways this spring began offering
a number of itineraries, such as “Yellowstone in Winter by
Snowcoach,” and “Canadian Rockies.”
Many member companies are motor coach tour operators with their
own offerings. But members can now also promote the Trailway tours
available nationally.
One of the most popular trips this year has been “Best of Boston
& Cape Cod,” which is an eight-day tour that starts at $727
(double), including hotel, a whale watching cruise, and a lobster
dinner.
All tours are commissionable at 10 percent.
