At the recent Travel Agent Reception and Showcase, held as part of the Luxe Worldwide Hotels (LWH) Membership Conference, 200 travel agents from Southern California shared feedback about industry trends, including 2012’s top destinations and what they look for in hotels.
A survey of travel agents from the event revealed that 85 percent of agents believe that the industry will continue to see higher demand for hotel rooms and increased prices in 2012, though this trend is dependent on the economy. The majority of agents (72 percent) observed that their clients were turning to four-star, rather than five-star, properties as a result of the economy.
The hotel amenities agents most seek out are Wi-Fi access and shuttle service. Agents also noted that they choose boutique hotels for their service, attentiveness and distinctive style.
Looking toward 2012, agents disclosed their top destination picks, from classic spots including Italy and France to emerging locations such as Turkey, Brazil and Dubai.
