Turkish Airlines conducted a ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception to celebrate its first-ever nonstop flight from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Istanbul's Ataturk Airport. Turkish Airlines' four weekly flights will be the only nonstop service between the U.S. West Coast and Istanbul. In recent years, Turkish Airlines, the fourth largest network carrier in Europe, has rapidly expanded its U.S. presence, and the airline's Los Angeles route will be its fourth gateway in the U.S. According to the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation, one average daily, roundtrip, transoceanic flight of wide-body aircraft to/from LAX generates $623 million in economic output annually and sustains 3,120 direct and indirect jobs in Southern California with annual wages of $156 million. The flight schedule was developed to provide Turkish Airlines passengers with convenient connections between Istanbul and major Turkish and Eurasian cities, as well as between LAX and important cities in the Middle East."Passengers will experience Turkish Airlines' high-quality service and overall customer service excellence in Business Class, Comfort Class and Economy Class on brand-new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with the latest technology," said Fatma Yuceler, Turkish Airlines' director for the West Coast. "This route will open new doors for travel between Los Angeles, Istanbul and the rest of the world."Flights to Istanbul from LAX leave Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at 5:55 p.m. arriving in Istanbul at 5:10 p.m. the following day. Returning flights leave Istanbul on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at 11:10 a.m. and arrive at LAX at 3:25 p.m.
