The U.S. and China reached a landmark agreement that officials say
will double the number of airlines that can fly between the U.S.
and China. A fivefold increase in flights is projected over the
next six years.
“This agreement opens new routes for travelers and new doors for
American workers,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman
Mineta.
The Transportation Department on July 23 authorized United
Airlines and Northwest Airlines to operate seven flights each per
week. At press time, no new flights from the West Coast had been
announced.
