Avalon Waterways recently launched a television advertising campaign to broadcast the line’s lifestyle into living rooms.
The new pair of spots playfully employ the 1980s track “Come On Eileen” by Dexys Midnight Runners to express the relaxed nature of an Avalon river cruise. On YouTube, the commercials feature different music, but the message is still the same.
The first one, titled “Come As You Are,” features glory shots of the brand’s signature ships and passengers enjoying themselves onboard and off — just as your clients can. Emphasizing that today’s luxury is the luxury of choice, the piece promises that “you can have things your way,” relaxing on the ship or discovering everything from vineyards to castles ashore. As I can personally attest from my own Avalon cruises: Indeed, nothing is rigidly scheduled, and so much is included without the need to dress formally.
The line invites potential guests to appreciate its Open-Air Balconies with comfortable Panorama Suite beds that conveniently face the expansive veranda while taking advantage of many inclusions. For example, wine, beer and soft drinks are complimentary for onboard lunches and dinners, and “Classic,” “Discovery” and “Active” land excursions are complimentary. The commercial does a good job at conveying the range of activities that can be expected, from city overviews to kinetic adventures.
Meanwhile, the second, called “Carpe Diem,” speaks more of time, highlighting shorter cruise durations — like four-day sailings starting at $874 — for those who can’t take off as much time but still would love to embark on a river voyage. The commercials encourage clients to not wait and book an Avalon cruise now. After all, “Happiness Flows,” as the spots’ tagline expresses.
