Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection will launch River Antoinette, the sister ship to last year’s new River Beatrice, in March 2011 on the line’s Castles Along the Rhine itinerary. The nine-day itinerary sails between Basel, Switzerland, and Amsterdam, the Netherlands, with visits to Breisach, Germany (the gateway to the Black Forest); wonderfully preserved Strasbourg, France (known as the Crossroads of Europe); medieval Speyer, Germany; the wine center of Rudesheim, Germany; and the romantic cities of Koblenz and Cologne, Germany.
According to Uniworld, the River Antoinette will have the largest staterooms of any contemporary river cruise ship currently operating in Europe. She will be Uniworld’s largest ship to date at 443 feet long and 37½ feet wide. With the additional space, Uniworld has elected to create more spacious staterooms and suites, meaning that there will be a minimal capacity increase. Most of the Antoinette’s 73 staterooms will be 196 square feet in size, with 20 rooms measuring 163 square feet. There will be eight junior suites, each measuring 294 square feet, and the Owner's Suite will be 391 square feet in size.
Antionette will feature top-deck suites and staterooms with full, open-air private balconies that, with a touch of a switch, convert to glass-enclosed conservatories during cooler weather. Additional innovative facilities include a heated swimming pool and a sky lounge on the sun deck.
Each stateroom category will have its own color scheme, and all suites and staterooms will have the English Savoir beds originally designed for the Savoy and Claridges hotels in London and now used in all Red Carnation Hotels and Uniworld ships. Bathrooms will feature marble in various color schemes, L’Occitane bath products and plush towels from Christies of Manchester, the oldest towel maker in Europe.
Beatrice Tollman, godmother and namesake of Uniworld’s River Beatrice, and founder and president of Uniworld’s sister company, the Red Carnation Hotel Collection, will lead the design project, working with her daughter, Antoinette Tollman, godmother and namesake to the new River Antoinette.
“We are very fortunate to have owners who are so invested, personally and financially, in making Uniworld the very best river cruise company,” said Uniworld president Guy Young. “The announcement of the River Antoinette is the beginning of exciting plans Uniworld has in store for 2011.”
