Viking River Cruises is introducing two new Egyptian river cruises in 2009. The company is making a special offer of 2-for-1 pricing as well as savings of $800 per couple on all-inclusive international airfare for passengers who book and pay in full by Aug. 15.
During these sailings, guests will see the legendary Cairo Museum, touch the Great Pyramid and the Sphinx and come into direct contact with artifacts and temples most people only read about, in addition to exploring the modern side of Egypt and its people.
Experiences include a camel ride and a cruise in a felucca, the traditional Egyptian sailboat; seeing Luxor (formerly Thebes) and Karnak; and making a cultural pilgrimage to the Nubian Temple of Isis, the famous temples of Karnak and Luxor and the collections of the Luxor and Nubian Museums.
The new nine-day Nile Explorer, priced from $2,798 per person, combines the ancient wonders and modern cities of Egypt; passengers will hear Nubian drums, shop in colorful souks and experience a five-day Nile cruise from Aswan to Luxor.
Also new is the 12-day Pathways of the Pharoahs cruise-tour, offered from $3,398. Guests sail across Lake Nasser to the monumental statues of Rameses II and Nefertari at Abu Simbel and explore the archeological heaven of the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Hatshepsut and the Valley of the Lions, lined with sculptures of the Sphinx.
In Egypt, Viking partners with the exceptional hosts to provide deluxe cruising on the Nile and Lake Nasser aboard the 120-passenger Prince Abbas and the 124-passenger Royal Lotus, each with a restaurant, library, plunge pool and Jacuzzi.
