Experts often recommend a good walk after eating but, in Juneau, clients can walk while eating. Alaskan Food Tours, a new tour operator in Alaska’s capital city, is offering three-hour culinary walking tours on Saturday and Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m.
The total walking distance during the tour is 1½ to 2 miles with stops along the way at eight downtown establishments, including seafood restaurants such as Tracy’s King Crab Shack, Taku Smokeries, Twisted Fish Company and The Flight Deck. Other hot spots for a bite or a drink on the tour include Heritage Coffee Roasting Co., Baranof Hotel, Red Dog Saloon and The Alaskan Fudge Company. Each location offers a unique taste of Alaska along with insight into the history and culture of the coastal community.
Because Juneau is a waterfront town, guests can expect several tastings to feature fish or shellfish. If someone in the party has a dietary restriction, notify the tour operator when purchasing tickets. Alaskan Food Tours will try to accommodate special food needs, but it is not possible to arrange special tastings without advance notice.
The tour is suitable for all age groups and fitness levels. However, there is a moderate hill climb and some stairs, and seating may be limited or unavailable in some locations.
All food tastings, enough for a meal, are included in the ticket price of $99 per person.
