Travelers winging their way into Portland may note a new feather in Portland's sustainability cap. Aloft Portland Airport at Cascade Station has just become the first PDX airport hotel to receive Green Seal silver certification.
The Aloft Portland feels like a downtown boutique hotel, with its arty interiors and stylish courtyard lounge, while offering the convenience of an airport location - and secure bike storage. Its unique Bike and Fly program allows departing guests to leave their bikes for up to 14 days at no cost with a one-night stay.
Those using Aloft as a launching pad into the Portland area have access to Electra cruisers and Bike Friday folding bikes, which they can ride on a nearby trail or bring downtown on the MAX light rail that stops outside the hotel's front door.
Hotels certified under Green Seal are required to minimize waste, be energy- and water-efficient, reduce or eliminate hazardous substances and establish an environmentally sensitive purchasing policy. The hotel's eco friendly features include participation in a renewable wind energy project, premium parking spots for hybrid cars and cruelty-free bath products in sleek bulk dispensers.
The PDX location also recently received the Starwood Award for Aloft Hotel of the Year.
