The romance of the 1930s and unique design elements of the ‘60s come to life as the stylistic development of the automobile is explored at the Portland Art Museum exhibition, The Allure of the Automobile, from June 11-Sept. 11, 2011.
The visual history will be told through 16 of the world’s rarest and most brilliantly conceived cars. The exhibit will feature public and private collection masterpieces spanning more than four decades. Featured automobiles have broken racetrack records, won prestigious awards and been owned by notable collectors ranging from French aperitif baron
André Dubonnet to Hollywood legend Steve McQueen.
Guest-curated by Ken Gross, former director of the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, the exhibition will expose enthusiasts and novices alike to one-of–a-kind cars along with models by Bugatti, Ferrari and Alfa Romeo.
As the oldest museum in the Pacific Northwest, the Portland Art Museum welcomes more than 350,000 visitors annually and is internationally recognized for its permanent collection and ambitious special exhibitions.
