The Mile High City is celebrating the nation’s independence with a weekend offering a seemingly endless array of activities.
The first week of July will see the opening of two art exhibits; Tutankhamen: The Golden King and the Great Pharaoahs will debut at the Denver art museum and The Bicentennial of the Americas: Denver 2010 celebrates art, culture and ideas from 35 countries in the Western Hemisphere.

During Fourth of July weekend, the skies of Denver will be ablaze with fireworks during the Civic Center Sounds: Independence Eve Celebration on July 3. On the eve of the Fourth of July celebration, Denver’s Civic Center Park will start the weekend with a bang with patriotic favorites performed by the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and accompanied by a light show and fireworks. The free concert begins at 8:30 p.m.

Also over the Fourth of July weekend, the Cherry Creek Arts Festival will celebrate its 20th anniversary. The outdoor art festival will feature 230 juried visual artists working in photography, wood, clay, pottery, fiber and metal.

Red Rocks will also light up the skies during the holiday weekend with a series of concerts. On July 3, The Red Rocks & Blue extravaganza will be headlined by Umphrey’s McGee and Galactic and will also feature reggae classics from the The Wailers.
On July 4, jam band veterans Blues Traveler return to Red Rocks for an evening chock full of tunes, and the Colorado Symphony’s second free concert of the weekend, Symphony on the Rocks, will take place at Red Rocks on Monday, July 5, at 7:30 p.m., performing classical music from Beethoven, Elgar, Copland, Sousa and more.
