Eventi Goes Live

May 28, 2010

The 292-room Eventi Hotel, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants’ newest property in New York City, debuted last month in the city’s Chelsea neighborhood. This is Kimpton’s fourth property in the city alongside the 70 Park Avenue Hotel, The Muse Hotel and Ink48.

The driving force behind the hotel is a feeling of action, where everything is live.

“We started with the idea that the hotel would be a place for celebrations,” said general manager Thomas Mathes. “Now, the Eventi is a place that feels alive, with a heartbeat that pulses with creativity and sends energy to every corner of the hotel.”

Mathes comes to the Eventi from another Kimpton property, The Muse Hotel in New York’s theater district, and was drawn to the property in its early stages of development.

“I threw my hat into the ring at the very beginning, a couple of years ago,” said Mathes, “but then it was only a dream. As we got closer, I really got excited. I enjoy creating and building new teams.”

Mathes moved to the Eventi in December of 2009 when the property was still filled with dust.

“When I first arrived, it took a very creative mind to visualize what the hotel was going to look like,” he said.

Now, the brand-new hotel, which was built from the ground up and designed by award-wining designer Colum McCartan, occupies the entire block of Avenue of the Americas between 29th and 30th streets.

The 292 guestrooms, of which 53 are suites, offer a cosmopolitan lifestyle experience, attracting both business and leisure travelers. Each room features Frette linens, Etro bath amenities, LCD flat-screen televisions, wireless phone handsets, an iHome sound system, complimentary high-speed wireless Internet access, complimentary newspaper upon request, minibar with organic snack and beverage options and in-room dining.

Highlights at the property include the Eventi Spa, which features Kerstin Florian spa products, a first for New York City. Located on the Veranda level, the spa offers a variety of treatments, including the highly recommended jet-lag body scrub.

Another feature that sets the hotel apart is its 6,000-square-foot veranda.

“The veranda is unlike any other hotel in New York City,” said Mathes. “It wraps around the building on the fifth floor and is a great place to relax. It is so quiet and serene, you can’t even hear the city below.”

Further encompassing its idea of creating a live atmosphere, Kimpton developed an outdoor area at the property for both guests and the public. The 25,000-square-foot outdoor plaza provides an urban oasis with public seating and a 20-foot wide multimedia art screen, which will debut in October and be used for public and private events.

“We have hired a curator, and we plan to have visual art installations, shows and a series of events,” said Mathes.

Mathes also added that Bluetooth headsets will be provided to guests occupying rooms with a view of the screen, so that they can hear the show from their rooms.

“We are a true design hotel,” said Mathes. “Every space here is for our guests. The property provides a respite for our guests. It feels exclusive and inclusive at the same time.”
