If your clients are as concerned about going green as they are about where they stay, you might want to suggest a stay in Santa Fe, N.M.
There, two inns — Hacienda Nicholas and The Madeleine — are green with (almost) everything. Both properties, which are members of the Environmentally Friendly Hotels group and the Green Hotels Association, have taken major steps to “go green all the way.”
Some of the eco-friendly measures adopted by both properties include: retrofitting low-flow toilets and showerheads; using only all-natural, environmentally safe cleaning products; recycling all allowable glass, paper and plastic; composting all organic matter; and implementing compact fluorescent and LED light bulbs. In addition to these measures, 80 percent of the inns’ electricity is wind-generated and they aren’t stopping there. Both are in the process of implementing a gray water gardening system and plan to go solar within the next year.
The seven-room inns are located just four blocks from the main city plaza and soon-to-be-opened convention center. A special spa/stay package includes a two-night stay at one property, two full breakfasts, a wine and cheese evening repast and a deluxe spa treatment for $360 per person, based on double occupancy.
