When the Historic Flight Restoration Hangar opens in March 2010, the new aviation-themed attraction will focus on the most important aircraft produced between 1927 and 1957. Aviation enthusiasts can watch the fully restored planes take to the skies on scheduled fly dates and learn how engineers work to rebuild a number of other rare airplanes.
Among the planes is the B-25D Mitchell, an early 1940s bomber that returned to the U.S. in September 2009 after 22 years in Europe. Other planes in the collection include the P-51B Mustang, which saw action during World War II and the Korean War; Supermarine Spitfire, which served four Air Forces in its lifetime; Waco UPF-7 biplane; Grumman F8F Bearcat; and Canadair T-33 Silverstar. The planes are from the private collection of aviation enthusiast and pilot John T. Sessions.
In 2011, the Historic Flight Education Center will open, featuring an orientation theater, an expansive light-filled view of the main hangar with its collection of restored aircraft, and a lounge and meal service for up to 75 guests.
