Thanksgiving is just around the corner. And while the sights, sounds and smells of the holiday season are beginning to slowly creep into the shortening days, resorts in Utah are preparing for a different kind of season — the 2008/2009 ski season.
Utah resorts have dedicated millions of dollars and countless hours during the off-season to renovating and improving facilities and services. For example, Snowbird offers lodging packages that allows kids 12 and under to ski for free; Solitude Mountain Resort has added two new high-speed quads, granting visitors from Solitude Village and Moonbeam Center quick and convenient access to the mountain; and Dear Valley renovated its Empire Canyon Lodge and replaced 44 snowmobiles at Summit Meadows Adventures.
Most of Utah’s resorts should be open Thanksgiving week, although exact dates ultimately depend on snow conditions. Projected opening dates are — Alta, Nov. 21; Beaver Mountain, TBA; Brian Head Resort, Nov. 22; Brighton Ski Resort, TBA; The Canyons, Nov. 27; Deer Valley, Dec. 6; Park City Mountain Resort, Nov. 22; Powder Mountain, Nov. 22; Snowbasin Resort, Nov. 27; Snowbird, Nov. 22; Solitude, Nov. 14; Sundance Resort, Dec. 5; and Wolf Mountain, TBA.
In the meantime, this anticipatory period is an ideal time to explore the natural wonder of the Moab area with some biking and hiking, particularly in Canyonlands National Park, where clients can find a little bit of peace before the chaos of the Holidays.
