The first annual Dallas Lonestar Classic will be held Saturday, Nov. 29 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas. The Classic will showcase the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions going head to head with the Texas Southern University Tigers and is expected to drawn more than 45,000 spectators.
Featuring two of the most storied African-American football teams, the weekend will celebrate African-American culture and history. The weekend kicks off on Friday with a ceremony to honor the Dallas Metroplex Council of Black College Alumni Associations and is followed by a welcome reception held at the African American Museum in Fair Park.
A job and college fair showcasing the Black College Experience will be held Nov. 29 followed by an official pre-game tailgate and the main event (the football game). At halftime, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff’s Marching Musical Machine of the Mid-South and Texas Southern University’s Ocean of Soul — both of which were chosen to the Honda Battle of the Bands Invitational Showcase in 2008 — will perform at halftime.
The weekend will conclude with an invitation-only gospel brunch at the House of Blues. Tickets are available online or over the phone on Sept. 1 via Ticketmaster.
