Makaha Resort and Golf Club, which includes a 173-room hotel and championship golf course in west Oahu, has announced plans for redevelopment. The hotel is owned by Canada-based Northwynd Resort Properties Ltd., while the 18-hole course is owned by Hawaiian Golf Properties.
“Northwynd and Hawaiian Golf Properties share a common vision for the future of the property,” said Northwynd chief executive officer Patrick Fitzsimonds. “They have indicated their intent to renovate the course into a world class facility. In turn, we intend to upgrade the resort to complement the redeveloped golf course. We believe this alliance will allow Makaha to attain its full potential as a premier resort.”
The 7,040-yard golf course, once considered one of Oahu’s best, was designed by William F. Bell, architect of Torrey Pines in San Diego. It is closing temporarily for renovations starting May 14, 2010.
The renovation of the hotel will be comprehensive, including upgrades to the front desk, lobby, restaurant, bar, pool, pool building, ballroom and guest rooms, which are housed in low-rise cottages. Northwynd does not anticipate a closure of the resort for its refurbishments.
On-property amenities include an ocean view restaurant and lounge, swimming pool, meeting rooms, multi-purpose sport courts, tennis and a spa.
