The newly arrived Queen of Seattle, a steam-powered paddle wheeler, is available for charter tours on Seattle’s Lake Union beginning in April 2010. Scheduled sightseeing tours will be in operation from May 15-October 17.
With a capacity of 275 passengers, the 161-foot Queen of Seattle is powered by two vintage 1884 reciprocating propulsion steam engines that are visible from an observation area on the lower deck.
“There is no better way to see Seattle than from the water,” said Doug Bacon, general manager of Queen of Seattle Paddle Wheel Cruises. “Our tours cruise by Seattle’s houseboat community, Gasworks Park and the Center for Wooden Boats, offering views of our spectacular city skyline and majestic mountains.”
The cost for the seasonal tours is $29 per adult and $15 per child ages 12 and under. Group rates are available for 25 or more guests.
The Queen of Seattle is also available for charter for special events, corporate meetings, weddings or private parties. Full catering and beverage service is available. The vessel will offer a series of themed cruises including an 1890s Gold Rush Dinner, mystery events and holiday celebrations.
