New Santa Barbara Car-Free Offer

Dec 29, 2009

“Take the CAR out of your CARBON Footprint” is the new slogan for 2010 from the Santa Barbara Car-Free Project. The slogan is part of an effort to invite visitors to make green travel choices in exchange for deals that can save up to 50 percent at more than 40 hotels, activities and restaurants throughout the year.

“As global strategies to reduce carbon emissions are discussed this month at the United Nations Climate Change Conference, now is a great time to talk about personal strategies,” said Mary Byrd, manager of the award-winning ecotourism project at the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District. “Transportation choices make a big difference in the size of your carbon footprint. With this new offer, we invite visitors to Santa Barbara to replace one or more car trips with car free travel for a healthier planet and to save money.”

Discounts are available for visitors who do one or more of the following: show an Amtrak train ticket to Santa Barbara with current date; show a Santa Barbara MTD (Metropolitan Transit District) Bus Pass with current date stamp; arrive at a hotel or activity by bicycle; or present a Santa Barbara Car-Free Carbon Footprint Certificate (available at SantaBarbaraCarFree.org).

Through Dec. 31, 2010, visitors can receive discounts from 23 hotels including: Beach House Inn & Apartments, Best Western Beachside Inn, Best Western Encina Lodge, Best Western Pepper Tree Inn, Brisas del Mar, Cabrillo Inn at the Beach, Canary Hotel, Casa Del Mar Inn, Cheshire Cat Inn Bed & Breakfast, Colonial Beach Inn, Eagle Inn, Fess Parker’s Doubletree Resort, Franciscan Inn, Holiday Inn Express-Hotel Virginia, Hotel Oceana, Hotel Santa Barbara, Inn by the Harbor, Inn of the Spanish Garden, Old Yacht Club Inn Bed & Breakfast, Ramada Limited Hotel, Santa Barbara Inn, Simpson House Inn and the Upham Hotel.
