Oregon is a state known for agricultural treasures ranging from Christmas trees to wine grapes and hazelnuts, so it's fitting that spring bursts onto the scene with an array of vibrant flower festivals in Portland -- known as the Rose City -- and the surrounding region.
Ushering in the season is the 26th annual Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival in thetown of Woodburn, featuring 40 colorful acres of blooming tulip and daffodil fields complete with a view of Mount Hood (March 25-May 1).
The first Saturday in April marks the beginning of bloom time at Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden in southeast Portland. The public park is filled with more than 2,500 rhododendron and azalea plants, and its Early Show flower display takes place on Mother's Day weekend (May 7-8).
The Portland Japanese Garden hosts an ikebana display for Hana Matsuri, an annual flower festival honoring the birth of Buddha and the springtime cherry blossoms (April 2-3).
Clients looking for trees in bloom as far as the eye can see should take a scenic drive during the Hood River Valley Blossom Festival. Blooming pear and cherry orchards line the festival's 47-mile tour route through one of the state's richest agricultural regions.
