In an effort to promote tourism to the Lone Star State, Texas Tourism is bringing back Texas on Tour — a six-month virtual reality roadshow that stops at 11 cities throughout the country. Texas on Tour features high-tech novelties such as green screens and interactive games that enable prospective tourists to experience a taste of Texas and whet their appetite for the real thing.
Texas on Tour hosts a variety of interactive activities that highlight the travel opportunities available in Texas. Participants can embark on a Virtual Reality Kayak Adventure in which they ride a kayak simulator, navigating their way through the whitewaters of Big Ben Country, rowing along Lady Bird Lake, and finally making their way to the Gulf of Mexico. Another fun activity is the Green Screen Photo Experience in which couples and families can use green screen technology to picture themselves in San Antonio or the Alamo. Additionally this year, the tour will feature a new 30-foot dome theater that will play a short film about Texas’ beautiful landscapes and rich history.
The roadshow will begin at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland on May 15 and will make stops in three cities in the West. From Sept. 5-7, the tour will stop at the Colorado Balloon Classic in Colorado Springs, Colo. From Sept. 11-20, the tour will be at the Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona, Calif., and from Oct. 3-11, the tour will be at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque, N.M.
