Juneau, Alaska, is inviting spring visitors to share in the city’s diverse musical heritage with two unique music events.
The 39th annual Alaska Folk Festival will take place April 8-14 at Juneau’s Centennial Hall, featuring more than 100 performances. The lineup will include bluegrass, folk, instrumental music, singers, storytellers, fusion, gospel, Appalachian swing and more, showcased in evening and afternoon performances. Dances will also take place some evenings, from Latin, blues and funk to polkas. Dance and music workshops will also be held, and admission to any festival event is free of charge.
Now in its 27th year, the Juneau Jazz and Classics event showcases all types of music including blues, jazz, gospel and classical. This year’s festival takes place May 3-18 and offers a mix of concerts, blues- and classical-themed cruises, workshops and family entertainment. Arlo Guthrie, celebrating the 100th birthday of his father, legendary musician Woody Guthrie, will kick off the festival on May 3 with a concert at 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale now, with savings available for multiple concert packages.
