For travelers who want to spend the bulk of their trip to Austin, Texas, shopping and eating in one convenient location, be sure to consider a stay in the Domain Northside district of North Austin.
Designed to be walkable and easy to explore, the area offers 600,000 square feet of retail, encompassing popular stores, luxury brands, local eateries and the Rock Rose entertainment district. Complementing the area’s artisanal Texan vibe is Archer Hotel Austin, a boutique favorite full of local flair and Southern hospitality.
Here, Julian Richmond, director of rooms at Archer Hotel Austin, shares his favorites things about Archer, Domain Northside and Austin.

Archer Hotel Austin offers guests a curated Texas experience with a touch of luxury they might not expect — especially since Archer is still one of hospitality’s best-kept secrets. Every room and design detail gives a nod to Austin’s vibrant spirit and the timeless spirit of Texas. And our location in the heart of Domain Northside puts guests steps away from some of the best shopping, dining and entertainment in the city. We genuinely love hosting here, and our biggest desire is to create personal, memorable experiences for every guest.
What are some of your favorite places to eat and play in Domain Northside outside of the hotel?
There’s no shortage of great spots to eat and play in Domain Northside and The Domain. New Domain-area favorites include Haywire (Texas steakhouse with a rooftop whiskey lounge), Ema (Mediterranean mezze), Hattie B’s Hot Chicken, The Salty Donut (gourmet coffee and donuts) and Coach Coffee Shop (yes, the luxury brand now serves lattes).

And what are some of your favorite leisure activities in the area?
When it’s time to play, there’s Topgolf; Sandbox VR (virtual reality experience); K1 Speed (indoor go-karting); the Q2 Stadium for an Austin FC soccer match; the Museum of Illusions; and Cap City Comedy Club.
Our neighborhood really has something for every kind of outing — whether you’re grabbing a quick bite, celebrating something big or looking for a little adventure.
The area is also a great place for nightlife. What is an ideal way to spend time in the evening?
Rock Rose is a mini entertainment district set in the heart of Domain Northside, just steps from Archer Hotel. It feels like a greatest-hits collection of downtown Austin — but in a walkable, easygoing setting. The street is lined with lively restaurants, rooftop bars, patios and late-night spots, making it perfect for an evening out. Start with a great meal, then wander from craft cocktail bars to live music venues, soaking up the energy that makes Rock Rose a nightlife favorite.

Is there anything new at Archer Austin that travel advisors should know about?
Patio and pool season has arrived at Archer Austin. Guests can cool off in the Lone Star splash pool, catch a game on the 14-foot outdoor television or unwind with giant Jenga and shaded cabanas. Fresh summer fare — from sharable snacks to seasonal sips such as signature margaritas and local brews — round out the experience. It’s a relaxed rooftop retreat, perfect for chilling after a day exploring.
How does Austin Archer incorporate Texas culture into the hotel, while also maintaining Archer’s boutique ethos?
We want guests to feel like they’re discovering little pieces of the Lone Star state everywhere they look — from reclaimed leather belts that greet guests on arrival to neon artwork that honors a beloved Texas band. We stay true to Archer’s boutique vibe, too, with small personal moments such as daily bedside treats from local Austin makers. It’s all about creating one-of-a-kind stays.
