In early January, the Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA) and Los Angeles Clippers basketball team partnered to present Hawaii Night at L.A.’s Staples Center to share the music and culture of the Hawaiian Islands during the Clippers’ game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
During the four-hour sold-out event, some 10,000 fans wore fresh flower leis or Clippers Aloha caps, one guest won a new surfboard, and Pleasant Holidays launched a Hawaii trip giveaway sweepstakes. Attendees also enjoyed a Hawaii-inspired menu in select locations in the arena and giveaways of foam shaka hands. Pregame and halftime concerts were performed by Hawaiian musician Willie K, and a hula studio showed off Hawaiian dance moves as well.
“We’re excited about having the Clippers hold training camp in Honolulu and wanted to give their fans a preview of the culture, music, fun, excitement and Aloha spirit that makes the Hawaiian Islands such a remarkable destination,” said George D. Szigeti, president and CEO of the HTA.
