On Sept. 18, 2015, in New Delhi, India, SITA World Tours received one of the travel industry’s top honors during an exclusive ceremony held by India’s Ministry of Tourism, a branch of the government of India. The Ministry of Tourism named SITA “Best Overseas Tour Operator to India from North America” for 2014, and the award was presented by Shri Pranab Mukherjee, the president of India.
Laudie Hanou, vice president of SITA, and Max Ali, director of group operations for the company, were at the event to receive the award.
Ceremony attendees also included Mahesh Sharma, minister of state for the Indian government, and Vinod Zutshi, secretary for the Ministry of Tourism, as well as others from the tourism and travel industries. The award coincides with SITA's 83rd anniversary.
Each year, a committee formed by India's Ministry of Tourism selects tour operators from all over the world based on their performance in the promotion of India as a destination. After a careful selection process, the winners are formally announced at the National Tourism Awards Ceremony, held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi. According to the Ministry’s guidelines, awards are given to various segments of the travel and tourism industry, in recognition of their outstanding efforts in their respective fields.
“It is a great honor to be recognized again by the India Ministry of Tourism and to receive the award from President Mukherjee himself,” Hanou said. “It is SITA's fifth national award from India, and it truly underscores our commitment to the destination from the Americas."
