At its recent summit in South Dakota’s Custer State Park, the Family Travel Association (FTA) honored six members for their outstanding contributions to the family travel industry, including Ken Shapiro, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of TravelAge West. During a dinner that took place in front of Mount Rushmore, the FTA acknowledged Shapiro as a staunch supporter of the organization; as the founder of Family Getaways, a trade publication solely focused on family travel; and for his support for travel advisors who sell family travel.
In addition to Shapiro, the FTA celebrated the achievements of Crystal Dyer, owner of Gone Again Travel; Ben Perlo, managing director of G Adventures; Stephanie Sheehy, co-owner of Costa Rica Family Holidays by Il Viaggio Travel; and writer Sherry Ott, founder of Ott’s World travel blog. Russell True, owner of White Stallion Ranch in Tucson, Ariz., was named Person of the Year for his dedication to creating unique family vacations and leadership in the dude ranch industry.
