Shirley Temple, Bette Davis, Bing Crosby, Spencer Tracy, Clark Gable, Alice Faye, Edgar Bergen, Harry Owens and Mickey Rooney were some of the celebrities who vacationed at the Royal Hawaiian from the late 1920s to the late 1940s. Now the iconic Pink Palace is reliving those visits with a special exhibit of rarely seen pictures provided by Matson Navigation Company, whose photographers took thousands of snapshots of the stars who traveled on its ships and vacationed in Waikiki. Matson built the hotel in 1927 so luxury accommodations were available both afloat and ashore. On display until Jan. 31, each image in the collection is presented on large canvas prints lining the walls of Coronet Lounge, and admission is free.
