Located in St. James's Place, which is off Piccadilly, the back of the hotel opens onto a private cobbled drive directly off St. James's Street, but this is not the hotel's main entrance.

The property, once belonging to Kempinski, occupies three traditional town houses and adjoining stables that served as an overseas club for American and Canadian officers during World War II. The hotel is part of Preferred Hotels & Resorts.
