Walk in one direction and you are in Puerta del Sol, turn the other way, and you hit Callao and Gran Via. Plaza Mayor and the Royal Palace are less than two minutes on foot. If you want to visit the historic monastery just outside the back entrance of the hotel on Plaza de las Descalzas, you need to make a reservation first.
