ASTA Launches Advocacy Newsletter

What:
The American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) recently launched a quarterly newsletter related to the organization’s political action committee (ASTAPAC). The newsletter includes the latest fundraising totals, pictures from ASTAPAC events, a volunteer spotlight, charitable giving highlights and an updated donor list.

Why It Matters:
One of the most important functions of ASTA is its work to advance agent interests in Washington, D.C. Now, advisors have a way to track these efforts, which will hopefully lead to greater participation from all agents. Plus, the creation of this newsletter is especially timely given the upcoming congressional elections and the many issues facing the travel industry. (www.asta.org)

Fast Facts:
- ASTAPAC has raised nearly $190,000 through donations.

- Recent efforts include lobbying the Department of Labor to remove travel agencies from a regulatory “blacklist” that blocks them from utilizing an exemption from federal labor rules.
