What
Host Agency Reviews (HAR), an independent website focused on home-based travel advisors, announced results from its Travel Agent Income Report for 2019. The survey finds that the average income for a full-time advisor is $61,427, and 84% of respondents are making more money than last year.
Why It Matters
Accurate income information helps advisors set expectations and goals for their careers. The picture for experienced agents is even better, as HAR’s report shows that advisors with 12 to 14 years of experience make nearly $100,000 per year.
Fast Facts
- The average income for part-time advisors (30 hours a week or less) was $17,185.
- Respondents report that revenue sources include commissions ($41,417), service fees ($5,863), consultation fees ($2,919) and “other” ($5,582).
- Other results from the income report include: the average income for established agents increased 10% from previous year; 74% of agents felt fairly compensated; 25% of hosted agents reported having ICs (up from 14% last year); and 60% reported that selling travel was their primary source of income.
- HAR also released results from a survey title “Who Is the Hosted Travel Agent in 2019?” Results from this report include: cruise was the top-reported niche (compared to Family Travel in 2018); 82% of respondents identified as women; 50% worked full-time; 62% reported having at least one industry certification; and 32% reported having membership to an industry association.
What They Are Saying
“There are so many things to love about the data from the income survey,” said Stephanie Lee founder of HAR founder. “But what I love most is that it gives real, concrete insights into the hosted advisor community. Previously, hosted advisors were this mysterious entity that was quickly shaping our industry, but no one really knew anything about them.”
