What: Florida and Hawaii Are Top Domestic Spots, While Mexico and the Caribbean Are Hot for International Travel
Travel insurance and assistance company Allianz Partners analyzed more than 985,000 flight itineraries (for trips between five and eight nights in length) for its Top 10 Summer Destinations review, revealing that Americans are regaining confidence in travel and detailing the most popular domestic and international destinations for summer vacations this year.
According to Allianz, the top domestic destinations rank as follows: Orlando, Fla.; Maui; Honolulu; Seattle; Anchorage, Alaska; Las Vegas; Kauai; the Island of Hawaii; Boston; and Miami. The top 10 international destinations include Cancun (Mexico), San Jose del Cabo (Mexico), Aruba, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Jamaica, Turks and Caicos, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Vallarta (Mexico) and the Bahamas.
Why It Matters: Emerging Travel Trends Reflect Pandemic-Era Preferences
The results of Allianz’s report confirm emerging trends in the travel industry that have been spurred by the pandemic, including the ongoing popularity of Mexico and the Caribbean among American travelers during COVID-19. And with four Hawaii destinations making the list for the first time in the survey’s history, it’s clear that the Aloha State is top of mind for travelers right now. That focus on Hawaii, paired with new-to-the-list Anchorage, also underscores that travelers are still looking for vacations with a heavy emphasis on the outdoors.
