Editorial: Travel Advisors Provide Calm Amid Chaos

Mar 09, 2026
Opinion  Travel Agents

The past month has tested travelers and travel advisors alike. Between airline disruptions, extreme weather events, geopolitical tension, supplier instability and shifting entry requirements, if the last few weeks have proven anything, it’s that uncertainty is no longer an occasional hurdle in travel — it is part of the day-to-day landscape. And in this environment, the role of the advisor has only become more important.

For years, the rise of DIY booking tools fueled the perception that travel planning was simply a matter of price and convenience. But convenience has a way of collapsing when flights are canceled, borders tighten, evacuation plans are implemented or an insurance clause becomes urgently relevant. In those moments, the traveler who brags about “saving a little” often finds themselves navigating chaos alone.

This is when advisors prove their value. Today’s travel agents are not just curating experiences; they are assessing risk, vetting partners, anticipating friction and building contingency plans before a client ever boards a plane. They understand which suppliers stand behind their product and which relationships matter when something goes wrong. They translate policy language into plain English. Perhaps most importantly, they provide calm, informed guidance when emotions are running high.

As travel becomes more complex, expertise becomes more valuable. With all the recent buzz about luxury travel, let’s not forget that freedom from worry may be the ultimate luxury. Advisors who can make this happen for their clients become invaluable.

Put simply: In stable times, advisors enhance travel. In unstable times, they safeguard it.
