Planet Hollywood Is Coming to Cancun

Planet Hollywood Hotels and Resorts is known for providing experiences that allow guests of all ages to “vacation like a star.”

On Jan. 29, the brand’s newest all-inclusive — Planet Hollywood Beach Resort Cancun — will join the Planet Hollywood portfolio when it opens just north of Cancun’s Hotel Zone in Costa Mujeres, Mexico.

The newly built 898-suite beachfront resort will feature 11 international restaurants; entertainment-themed guest experiences; and authentic Hollywood memorabilia displays (most notably, a car from the first movie in the “Fast & Furious” franchise will be parked in the lobby lounge).

We spoke to Jonathan Iriarte, general manager of the resort, about the latest addition to the brand’s global portfolio.

What makes Costa Mujeres a great fit for the Planet Hollywood brand?
As far as beach destinations in Mexico go, Cancun is always in the spotlight with its lively restaurants, high-energy nightlife and inviting white-sand beaches. But just 30 minutes north, Costa Mujeres — considered the hidden gem of Cancun with unspoiled beaches and thriving nature reserves — sets the stage for vacation excellence.

The location is close enough to enjoy all Cancun has to offer, but far enough away that it delivers an intimate atmosphere and laidback vibe. We’re excited to bring the Planet Hollywood lifestyle and Vacation Like a Star experience to the beautiful shores of Costa Mujeres with this brand-new resort.

Are there activities and amenities unique to this resort? 
Planet Hollywood Beach Resort Cancun will be our largest resort, so the property will feature multiple amenities and programs unique to this location.

This will be the first location to feature a teens’ club; a new Planet Play Adventure Park; “PH Attractions;” and Adult Scene, our new adults-only resort-within-a-resort concept.

There will also be an on-site theater with a capacity of up to 76 people — because what’s a trip to Planet Hollywood without a front-row seat to a good movie?

We pride ourselves on delivering the hottest culinary trends from around the world, so Planet Hollywood Beach Resort Cancun will also feature several new food and beverage options, including the new 6th Sense – Chef’s Table experience, which features a personal chef and custom-crafted menu.

Will the hotel offer destination-specific experiences?
Every Monday, guests will be invited to explore Mexico’s vibrant culture with the resort’s signature “Viva Mexico” event.

During dinner, clients can enjoy a special menu and live performance from a mariachi band.

Kids can join the Mexican crafts workshop and try to crack a pinata at the Stars Kids Club, or enjoy screenings of “Coco” and “The Book of Life.” Adults can watch films such as “Frida” and “Roma” with fresh margaritas and nachos.

As a part of our “PH Experiences,” we have curated the ultimate lineup of off-site excursions to encourage guests to discover the wonders of Costa Mujeres and the famed [state of] Quintana Roo. From underwater exploration and sunset cruises to Maya adventures and adrenaline-packed all-terrain vehicle tours, PH Experiences has something exciting for everyone.

What are the resort’s family-friendly activities?
Planet Hollywood Cancun’s PH Attractions are sure to set the stage for action-packed family fun. Cancun will also feature a first-of-its-kind on-site adventure park, Planet Play, where adults and kids can have fun indoors, as well. There will be a trampoline zone, a golf simulator, a basketball court and an arcade.

What COVID-19 protocols have been put in place?
We have implemented our Safety-Assured Vacations program, which consists of advanced health and safety measures to protect both guests and employees from the spread of illness.

This program includes everything from continuous cleaning and sanitizing of all public and shared spaces and thorough sanitization of in-room touch points, to reduced capacities for restaurants and indoor facilities, along with physical distancing guidelines in common spaces.
