Home-based Maui Destination Specialist with The Travel Society in Boulder, Colo., Doris Mundy speaks with TravelAge West about her memorable Maui vacation during which she and her husband celebrated 35 years of marriage.
Q:When did you last visit Maui and what was the occasion?
A:I went to Maui in August of 2007. My husband and I traveled there to celebrate our 35th anniversary. We chose Maui because it is a romantic and fun-filled island.
Q:What activities did you do while you were there?
A:We enjoyed several scenic drives, including a trip up Haleakala Volcano and a beautiful ride along the road to Hana. Around every curve was a picture-perfect view that was better than the one before. We found some great snorkeling spots and watched the surfers in Lahaina. We went on a helicopter tour and tried ziplining. It was just the trip we had hoped for.
Q:Where did you stay on Maui, and what did you think of it?
A:We stayed in an oceanview unit with a kitchen at Napili Kai Beach Resort. It’s a great family accommodation and a fantastic place for reunions. The dividers between the decks open, so if you have several families right next door to each other, you can share one huge lanai.
Q:What trends are you seeing as you book Maui travel?
A: I specialize in honeymoons and destination weddings, and I’m finding that honeymooners continue to love Maui. They go there because of all the activity options, amazing resorts, fabulous food, friendly people and the ease of getting around. No matter how the economy is doing, brides and grooms will still take their once-in-a-lifetime trip to Maui.
Q:What are your recommendations to other travel agents who would like to boost their Maui sales?
A: It’s important to see Maui for yourself. It’s an easy sell, and your clients will always come home happy. If you become a Maui Destination Specialist, you’ll benefit from even more knowledge, and you’ll love the lei greetings that your clients receive.
