Travel Industry Solutions (TIS) has launched a free guide for its travel advisor members to help them implement the Department of Transportation's (DOT) new airline refund rule, effective Oct. 28. The resource also addresses agents who are not the merchant of record.

The free guide provides internal control checklists, marketing strategies and questions for suppliers who combine air travel with other services.

"This rule represents a significant change for the entire travel industry, not just for merchant of record agents," explains Sheila Folk, CEO and founder of Travel Industry Solutions. "Many customers do not fully understand the merchant of record distinction, which can lead to confusion when it comes to refunds."

The guide includes insights from Allianz Travel Insurance and Regal Wings airline consolidator, covering DOT rule explanations, customer communication scripts and compliance checklists.

"At Regal Wings, we are committed to helping travel agents understand the new airline refund policies and how they apply when working with consolidators," says Chaz Dunwoody, director of sales.

The guide is available for free for members of TIS, and is on sale for $97 for non-members.
